I had no idea that I could make
sugar flowers and I am happy to report that this little experiment
went even better than I could have imagined. Incase you hadn't
noticed, the upcoming tea party has kind of a retro orange daisy
theme happening. I decided to get adventurous and make some
matching sugar flowers to use as decorations. I looked up a few
tutorials on YouTube and found that I was missing a key tool,
a flower nail.
So, I drew a wheel shaped guide
on a piece of white office paper, cut it out, and taped it, with
clear packing tape, to a small ball jar that I had turned on its
end. Once my guide was secured, I put some clear double sided tape
on top to hold wax paper squares that I cut to pipe the flowers
on.
To make the royal icing I
used:
3 egg
whites
1 t of vanilla
extract
4 cups of confectioners
sugar
food
coloring
I whipped the egg whites with
the whisk attachement in the Kitchen Aide until the were frothy,
added the vanillia, mixed well, then added the sugar a little at a
time until fluffy. I separated the icing at this point at made two
batches, orange and yellow. I filled my icing bag with the orange
and using a the decorating tip #104 and made the petals.

Then I washed and refilled the
bag with yellow and using a basic #2 round tip, dotted on the
flower centers.

I am so pleased with the
results!
